ABOUT US
The South African National Petroleum Company (SANPC) is the newly established State-Owned Company. This company was formed after the merger of three of the Central Energy Fund (CEF) subsidiaries, Igas, PetroSA and Strategic Fuel Fund.
The decision to merge these companies was a culmination of a policy statement made by CEF’s shareholder, the Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe at the Portfolio Committee on Mineral Resources and Energy held on 7 May 2020. This policy statement was also endorsed by Cabinet’s approval on 10 June 2020, which paved a way to allow the state to participate meaningfully in the oil and gas developments.
It is poised to become a leading player in South Africa’s energy sector, ensuring energy security, driving new technologies, developing, and enabling essential infrastructure, fostering strategic partnerships, and propelling social and economic development.
The SANPC is also expected to oversee strategic planning, coordination, and governance of the country’s petroleum resources, contributing to the country’s sustainable development and economic growth.
